What Is ESET?

ESET is a cybersecurity company known for developing antivirus and endpoint security solutions. Founded in 1992 and based in Slovakia, ESET provides threat detection, endpoint protection, and cybersecurity services for individuals and organizations.

ESET’s security products use heuristics, machine learning, and cloud-based analysis to detect malware, ransomware, phishing attacks, and other cyber threats. The company’s products include ESET NOD32 Antivirus, ESET Internet Security, and ESET Endpoint Security.

With a focus on lightweight performance and proactive threat detection, ESET aims to provide strong protection without significantly impacting system speed. The company’s research teams also contribute to global cybersecurity efforts by analyzing and reporting on emerging threats.

Notable ESET Limitations

While ESET provides useful cybersecurity solutions, there are some limitations that users may encounter. These limitations were reported by users on the G2 platform:

  • Complex dashboard and setup: Navigating the ESET Protect dashboard requires some technical expertise. The implementation process can also take longer than expected.
  • Workflow interruptions: ESET Protect restricts most new files by default, sometimes delaying operations until the user manually confirms the files are safe.
  • Manual installation effort: Automating security settings across all devices can be challenging, and reinstalling ESET on every new machine requires time and manual effort.
  • Limited customization for installation: The HTTP scanner is a useful security feature, but some users prefer an option to install only the antivirus component without it.
  • Data accuracy requires fine-tuning: The system may need adjustments to display accurate security data, which can be part of the learning curve for users.
  • False positives: Some proprietary software applications may be incorrectly flagged as threats, requiring manual intervention.
  • Limited detection details: Certain security detections lack enough information to track the exact timeline of incidents.
  • Pricing concerns: Smaller organizations may find the cost of advanced features or licenses relatively high compared to alternatives.
  • System performance impact: The automatic hourly updates, while beneficial for security, can cause slowdowns on lower-end desktops.
  • Full disk encryption challenges: Managing encryption across devices can be difficult, especially if employees forget passwords or rarely use encrypted devices.
  • Issues with Linux and mobile versions: The Linux version of ESET has installation challenges, and the mobile application may experience errors or performance issues.

Cynet: Ultimate ESET Alternative

Cynet is a holistic security solution that protects against threats to endpoint security and across your network. Cynet provides tools you can use to centrally manage endpoint security across the enterprise.

Cynet’s intelligent technologies can help you detect attacks by correlating information from endpoints, network analytics and behavioral analytics with almost no false positives.

With Cynet, you can proactively monitor entire internal environments, including endpoints, network, files, and hosts. This can help you reduce attack surfaces and the likelihood of multiple attacks.

Cynet platform

Cynet provides cutting edge EDR capabilities:

  • Advanced endpoint threat detection—full visibility and predicts how an attacker might operate, based on continuous monitoring of endpoints and behavioral analysis.
  • Investigation and validation—search and review historic or current incident data on endpoints, investigate threats, and validate alerts. This allows you to confirm the threat before responding to it, reducing dwell-time and performing faster remediation.
  • Rapid deployment and response—deploy across thousands of endpoints within two hours. You can then use it to perform automatic or manual remediation of threats on the endpoints, disrupt malicious activity and minimize damage caused by attacks.

In addition, Cynet All-in-One provides the following endpoint protection capabilities:

  • NGAV—providing automated prevention and termination of malware, exploits, Macros, LOLBins, and malicious scripts with machine learning based analysis.
  • User Behavior Rules—detecting and preventing attacks using compromised credentials through the use of behavioral baselines and signatures.
  • Deception technology—planting fake credentials, files and connections to lure and trap attackers, mitigating damage and providing the opportunity to learn from attacker activity.
  • Monitoring and control—providing asset management, vulnerability assessments and application control with continuous monitoring and log collection.
  • Response orchestration—providing manual and automated remediation for files, users, hosts and networks customized with user-created scripts.
